Lona Doolan 10/06/2026 5:03 AMHi Brooke, I have this same problem with the foods I buy at Costco (asparagus, mushrooms, etc.) and I started sharing things with my daughter. Makes it feel better about shopping there for fresh produce.

Planning
Track My Wasted Food
I will track the food that my household of 2 throws out so I can learn what we're wasting and why.
Storage
Create an Eat First Area
I will create an "Eat First" area in my fridge to prioritize food that needs to be used right away for my household of 2.
Shopping
Skip the Cart
Bigger carts make us feel like we need to fill them! Use a hand basket to improve grocery store discipline and prevent over-purchasing.
Shopping
Buy From A Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat directly from a local farmers market and make 1 meals.
Cooking
Make Soup Broth
I will store vegetable scraps or bones in my freezer and use them to make veggie stock or bone broth. I will make 1 batches.
Community
Keep all food out of the garbage
In addition to using up my edible food, I will separate and compost my food scraps using backyard composting, curbside pickup, or a drop-off program.
Planning
Create a Household Favorites List
I will create a cookbook or recipe collection of go-to meals for my household to make meal planning easier.
Shopping
Support Imperfection
I will intentionally buy ugly produce at the grocery store, farmers market, or sign up for an ugly produce CSA box.
Storage
Properly Store Berries
To keep berries fresh, place them on top of a paper towel in a sealed container to absorb excess moisture and reduce chances of molding. I will properly store 2 packs of berries.

REFLECTION QUESTIONPlanningWhat did you find you are tossing the most? How can you change your habits to avoid wasting this food?
Brooke Peterson 10/02/2026 8:19 PMI've noticed when we buy snacks/food from costco, we get sick of it before we finish the bag/pack. then we feel guilty about it and keep it in the fridge for months... im going to try to give away the things we dont eat as soon as we get sick of them instead of guily-keep things. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONShoppingWhat food items do you prefer buying from a farmers market than a grocery store? Why?
Brooke Peterson 10/01/2026 4:17 PMI almost always get green beans, tomatoes, and alliums. The alliums last for months, and the taste is so much richer! nummy nummy -
