Storage
Deciphering Date Labels
I will learn about food labels and not throw food out just based on the date on the package, but instead check the smell and color to see if it has gone bad.
Planning
Keep a Food Inventory
I will take a fridge and pantry inventory to stay up to date with what I have at home before I go grocery shopping.
Planning
Plan to Use My Garden or CSA Produce
I will check to see what will be ready to eat in my garden or CSA box this week and plan recipes that use these ingredients.
Shopping
Eat Before Shopping
I will resist impulse buys by eating a snack or meal before going grocery shopping. Those who grocery shop on an empty stomach spend 64% more than not-hungry shoppers.
Shopping
Scrutinize Deals
I will resist the suggestion to buy the quantity advertised on sale and only buy what I know I will eat.
Shopping
Stick to Your Grocery List
I will only purchase the items on my grocery list and avoid impulse purchases.
Community
Keep all food out of the garbage
In addition to using up my edible food, I will separate and compost my food scraps using backyard composting, curbside pickup, or a drop-off program.

Lorna Leistikow 10/09/2026 11:22 AMI admit, since I experienced a life changing event and am only buying for one, I go between ordering from Amazon and Aldi's. I had never ordered food from Amazon before and I have not been disappointed. I find when I am at the store, I tend to see tasty treats and I am too tempted. My grandkids miss that, but now we have healthier snacks. I have also learned to purchase in smaller portions.
