An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money? How has meal planning helped you avoid waste?

$1500 is a lot of money to throw out. If I wasted that much money, I would be more conscious and save the money for a trip. If I plan my meals, then hopefully I will know what food we are using for what meals and not waste it.

loosely scheduled meal planning - depends on what I am doing during the week if I have a meal that takes longer to prepare or not
